9 DAYS Gorillas and Chimpanzees Tour

Meet with your Uganda driver for a warm welcome and also get enlightened about this special primate expedition.

Leave the hotel early and catch up with morning boat for you to connect to Ngamba Island. Ngamba Island contains up to 52 rescued/orphaned chimpanzees and today, you will be targeting the morning session when the care takers will be feeding these apes. You will participate or simply watch as the chimpanzees are being fed, and also explore they behave in their area. After, return late in the afternoon

Kibale National Park is Uganda’s top visited park for chimpanzee trekking, holding over 1500 chimpanzees and 4 fully habituated communities open for tracking. The park is accessible within 5-6 hours from Entebbe but you will be offered lunch upon arrival at Fort Portal city. Next, continue to Bigodi Wetland for a nature walk 2 hours and expect to see a variety of primates such as olive baboons, blue monkeys, red tailed monkeys, black and white colobus plus birds. The local guide will also take you to the community projects intended to boost conservation practices in the area.

Gather at Kanyanchu visitor center, get briefed about your chimpanzee habituation adventure. The park official will allocate to you the park guide to accompany you on a long day search for semi habituated chimpanzees. The long day chimpanzee habituation includes observing how chimpanzees behave right from the moment the rises till they make new nest in the evening for a night stay. You will have adequate time to take photos and lunch will be enjoyed in the forest. You will be returning to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Depart Kibale on a scenic drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, view the Crater Lakes, and the spectacular Rwenzori Mountains. As you exit Queen Elizabeth NP from the South, be keen so as to capture the tree climbing lions lazing in the fig trees. Get lunch in the wilderness and continue to the lodge in Bwindi N/Park.

Today is dedicated for you to make your dream come true as you immerse yourself on a guided gorilla trekking. Mountain gorillas are unique apes and thrive only in 3 places –Uganda, Rwanda and Congo. Trekking through Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to see these apes will take 2-6 hours with guarantee of one hour for photography and observing how they behave. If you return early, you will be led to Batwa community to meet with the Batwa pygmies, the renowned hunters and gatherers.

You’ll be picked up for a border crossing to Rwanda, leaving Bwindi early for Volcanoes National Park, renowned for golden monkeys and mountain gorillas. Crossing via the Katuna or Chanika border, you’ll arrive early and visit Iby’Iwacu Village, where former poachers have transformed into advocates of gorilla conservation. Embark on a gorilla trekking and today marks your 2^nd phase of seeing mountain gorillas but this time, you will be at Volcanoes National Park. Actual trek begins at Kinigi after getting briefed from the park official and you will be spending 2-6 hours inclusive of one hour for photo taking and watching how mountain gorillas behave in the wild. Move back to the lodge for a long evening relaxation, leisurely dinner and a night stay.
