With a 7-Day Uganda primate tour, expect a lifetime experience as you soak yourself into the dense rainforest to see mountain gorillas and chimpanzees. This primate adventure package includes a visit to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (BINP) for an ultimate gorilla trekking experience and combines up close with chimpanzees in Kibale National Park, the primate capital of the world.

Kibale National Pak lies in western Uganda, sheltering moist evergreen rainforest. This park was gazetted in 1993 and spans up to 795sq.km, containing 13 species of primates including an estimated of 1500 chimpanzees and 12 more primate species. It offers remarkably unforgettable chimpanzee treks in any of its 4 habituated communities.

Bwindi is Uganda’s leading mountain gorilla trekking destination, home to more than 459 mountain gorillas. BINP is situated in far Southwestern Uganda, covering 331sq.km of land area and contains 4 sectors –Buhoma, Nkuringo, Rushaga and Ruhija.

Itineraries

Arrive at Entebbe International Airport (EBB) and you will meet with your driver for a warm welcome to Uganda –the Pearl of Africa. Leave Entebbe airport for Kampala to check in at a comfortable hotel, enjoy dinner and retire for a night.

 

Lunch, Dinner

Start your journey to Kibale National Park, 6 hours’ drive via Mityana-Mubende-Fort Portal city and your driver guide will be engaging you throughout your road trip. Get to Fort Portal city where you will make a stopover, enjoy a delicious lunch and you will eventually connect to the lodge in or around Kibale.

After breakfast, transfer to Kanyanchu Visitor Centre to be briefed on the guidelines to be followed on your trek to see chimpanzees. With company of an experienced park guide, set off for actual Kibale chimpanzee walk through the park, taking 2 to 4 hours.

Chimpanzee communities that you will be visiting today are already accustomed to human presence and you will have one hour to observe their daily behavior and taking photos. You will be accompanied back after the magical encounter, have lunch and next session will be primate/nature walk through Bigodi Wetland.

A guided nature walk through Bigodi allows you search for more primates and bird species. The common primates to expect to see here include red tailed monkeys, l’hoest monkeys, red colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, black & white colobus monkeys.

After a hefty breakfast, meet your driver and should be ready to hit the road to Bwindi National Park. Drive out of Kibale and as you head towards Queen Elizabeth NP you will be viewing the breathtakingly scenic Crater Lakes. Pass via Queen Elizabeth Park with higher chance to spot some mammals as they roam and at Ishasha sector in the south, a mini game drive will be had to allow you search for tree climbing lions. Settle for bush lunch meal and you will continue to Bwindi to check in at your lodge.

A delicious cup of tea/coffee will be enjoyed early morning and after, meet the park officials at the park offices for briefing about gorilla trekking rules. You will be accompanied by an experienced park guide on a search for gorilla family starting at 8:00 am, and the adventure will run for 2-6 hours less or more depending on your speed and location of gorillas.

After maximizing the one hour taking pictures and observing how these apes behave, return to the lodge for relaxation. Later on, be accompanied to the Batwa community for a cultural walk, entertainment and learning how the Batwa lived peacefully with wildlife in the forest for years.

Begin your journey back to Entebbe and this includes scenic view from the Kigezi region. Branch off to Igongo for lunch, and if time permits, have brief tour around Igongo exploring the unique traditions, cultures of Ankole and Bahima people, renowned long horned cattle keepers. Afterwards, continue to the equator crossing for photography and more leg stretching. Next, you will drive straight to Entebbe
