Overview

1-day Volcanoes National Park from Kigali is an unforgettable short gorilla safari in Rwanda. This remarkable gorilla tour takes you to Volcanoes National Park, Northwestern Rwanda where the endangered mountain gorillas live plus other wildlife, bird species. The park is comprised of about 12 habituated families of endangered mountain gorillas including among others; Amahoro, Karisimbi group, Sabyinyo, Bwenge, Ugenda, Agashya, Umubano, Pablo, Titus, Hirwa family, Susa A, and Kwitonda.

Volcanoes N/Park is one of Africa’s oldest parks, created in 1925 mainly to host mountain gorillas. The park covers a compact area of land measuring 160sq.km and lies in Musanze/Ruhengeri region, 2-3 hours’ drive from Kigali city center. It also has five volcanoes including Sabyinyo, Muhabura, Gahinga, Bisoke, and Karisimbi which form part of the 8 Virunga Volcanoes/Massifs.

Other wildlife that Volcanoes NP supports includes golden monkeys, elephants, duikers, forest buffaloes, hyenas, birds such as Kivu ground thrush. Your 1-day Volcanoes National Park starts and ends in Kigali.

Itinerary

Day 1 :

Wake up early before the sunrises, and drive to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze/Ruhengeri. Travel time to spend about 2-3 hours, and you will join other guests for a briefing at the Kinigi visitor centre. Get to understand the set gorilla trekking guidelines and at 8:00 am, normal tracking of mountain gorillas starts with a park guide leading you through the forest. This remarkable adventure takes 2-6 hours, and covers one hour of staying with them while exploring how they behave and taking pictures.

Once you are done observing gorilla behaviours, consider returning to the park offices to meet the driver guide. He will drive you back to Kigali city, drop you off at a hotel for evening relaxation and overnight stay or at the airport for a late evening flight if it is scheduled the same day.

Yes we have limitations like;
if you have flue, Cough, Covid or any airborne disease as they are transferable from humans to the Gorillas

What do i need to carry if am going Gorilla tracking ?

– a hat to shelter you from direct sun raise
– walking stick ( optional but always provided by the hotel)
– camera ( flash should be off)
– water proof clothing as it an impenetrable Forest
– packed meal and water

Can Gorillas Attack while viewing them ?

These are habituated Gorillas who are used to be viewed, but should be atleast a meter away from the gorillas and should not look direct in their eyes, but still we have all protection in place if any of such happens as we have armed guides.

Should be Mobile with some level activity

Is Gorilla Trekking better in Uganda or Rwanda ?

Its the same Experience, though Rwanda is low land and Uganda is Highland, also the rates differ Uganda at $700 and Rwanda $1500.
