Semliki wildlife reserve

ACCOMODATION AT SEMULIKI SAFARI LODGE

Semliki Wildlife Reserve, previously known as Toro Semliki Wildlife Reserve, is one of Uganda’s oldest wildlife reserves. It was established in 1926. It is located in western Uganda, an hour’s drive from Fort Portal, in the districts of Ntoroko and Kabarole. The reserve features a diverse landscape of rainforest, savannah grasslands, and riparian woodland. The reserve offers breathtaking views of the Rwenzori Mountains and the distant Blue Mountains of the Congo. The Semliki River’s lush green wetlands extend to Lake Albert, which is ideal for an early morning boat safari. The Semliki national park is an extension of the huge Ituri forest, making it one of Africa’s richest regions for flora and animals. Semliki National Reserve is a natural wonder comprised of the Semliki River and ever-boiling hot springs.

DINNER AT SEMULIKI SAFARI LODGE

Many animals and birds live in the reserve, including elephants, buffalo, waterbuck, crocodiles, warthogs, and Uganda kob. Keep an eye out for pygmy hippos, hyenas, leopards, and raucous bush babies. Popular safari activities in the reserve include game drives, boat cruises, and guided chimp walks. Unlike the chimpanzees in Kibale, Budongo, and Kyambura Gorge forests, the ones found in Semliki are less habituated. However, it is still a fantastic opportunity to observe these intelligent primates in their natural habitat. Semliki Safari Lodge offers Lake Albert boat cruises to see the rare shoebill stork.
