safari Accommodation in Akagera National Park

Magashi Camp

Magashi Camp is a newly built premium camping lodging facility that opened in early 2019. It is located in the extreme north of Akagera National Park, facing Lake Rwanyakazinga. This lodging facility has 6 safari tents with wonderful modern touches and fashionable objects such as wooden tables, modern décor, netting large mattresses, and the tents are lighted with plenty of light and are quite spacious. The rooms are extremely large and have a dressing area with baggage storage, coffee-making facilities, a mini-safe, a complimentary mini-bar, a writing desk and chair, an en-suite bathroom, and pedestal fans. The safari tents at Magashi Camp offer a large terrace from which to enjoy the lovely scenery of the park. While staying at Magashi camp, you will be able to see many animals such as the Sitatunga antelope, black rhino, hippos, crocodiles, and others.

Karenge Bush Camp

Karenge bush camp is an incredible ecological accommodation facility. Karenge bush camp gets its name from the Kinyarwanda term Karenge, which means “footprint.” The camp provides a romantic intimate wilderness experience with 6 canvas tents that can accommodate a maximum of 12 people. Each tent has two camp beds, chairs, reed mat flooring, and solar lighting for reading. Each tent has its own outdoor bathroom with bucket showers, toilets, and cancan basins with warm water.

Karenge Bush Camp is a seasonal camp that operates on a bi-annual basis. The camp is known as “footprint” since the park’s first goal was to leave a small light footprint on the earth’s surface. This is observed during the removal of the tent. The tents were built with a raised deck to prevent and battle the chance of animals entering. Karenge wilderness camp has services such as a bar and lounge, as well as breakfast.

 Akagera Game Lodge

Akagera game lodge is an outstanding housing facility located in the northeastern part of Akagera national park. The game lodge is strategically positioned and easily accessible from Kigali, Rwanda’s capital city. Ruzizi tented lodge is a luxury lodge that offers a touch of magnificence and elegance. It is a modest luxury eco-camp located at the shore of the gorgeous Lake Ihema in the center of a riverine forest filled with swinging huge fig trees. The Ruzizi tented lodge, which opened in January 2014, is located within the park and invites you into the wilderness, allowing you a connection with nature. The resort is surrounded by tall natural trees that were not harmed during construction.

Ruzizi tented resort offers stunning views of Lake Ihema and the opportunity to see a variety of bird species. The lodge is decorated with handcrafted local handmade products made by locals, giving it an African feel. Ruzizi Tented Lodge is a 20-bed tented lodge comprised of cottages linked together by boardwalk ways. The lodge has 9 tented rooms, each of which has an en-suite bathroom, beautiful African deco pieces, a dressing area, comfortable beds, and a private balcony from which to view the spectacular aspects of the park. There is also an outdoor shower in the resort. Tents come in a variety of lodging options, including two-person tents with roomy queen beds, tree-top tents with spectacular views of Lake Ihema, and one family tent accommodating up to four visitors. The Ruzizi tented camp is operated by Akagera National Park, and the majority of the lodge’s earnings are invested in conservation efforts to protect the park’s flora and species.

Camping

Camping is one of the best ways to interact with and enjoy the wilderness of Akagera National Park. Akagera National Park has three fantastic camping sites:

Shakani Akagera campsite. This campsite is located on the shores of Lake Shakani. While sleeping at this camp, you can enjoy beautiful views of the lake, a cool breeze, and spot hippos.

Mutumba Akagera campground is the highest point in the park and is recognized for having a big population of animals that may be seen while staying here.

Muyumba Campground is located on the hills and offers stunning views of both Lake Ihema and Lake Shakani.

When camping in Akagera National Park, there are fire pit tents available as well as tap water, a shared bathroom, and a pit latrine.

The Nyungwe Top View Hill Hotel, which was erected on top of one of Nyungwe’s hills, opened in February 2011. It has a total of 12 well-built and self-contained cottages and has some of the most beautiful views in the region surrounding Nyungwe Forest due to its location on top of a hill. It is strategically located because it’s close to the park headquarters and only 5 minutes away from the main road.  The stunning view of the tea plantations awaits you as you arrive at the resort.

The hotel’s rooms are all well-kept, and are extremely spacious, with private balconies that provide beautiful views. All of the rooms are created traditionally with locally sourced materials. There is a circular lounge where everyone congregates and unwinds after the day’s activities. It space is nicely decorated with those trendy sofas.

Nyungwe Forest Lodge – Nyungwe House

This is a super-premium lodging facility located in a secluded location along the borders of the Nyungwe forest in Rwanda’s southwestern corner. This lodge is made up of 24 wonderfully constructed self-contained rooms with balconies that provide a very clear and lovely view of the forest canopy from one side of the forest and a vast tea plantation on the other.  It was the first five-star resort erected in the region. These 24 rooms are organized into villas, each with four rooms. Furthermore, there are two presidential suites, each of which is located in a private villa with its own Jacuzzi, making it a truly beautiful place to spend the night. It is a stunning lodge perfect for both luxury and international guests, as well as honeymooners. The suites are beautifully decorated with modern and traditional crafts. Gisakura Guest House – ORTPN Rest House

This is also known as the Gisakura guest house. It is situated in the southwestern part of Rwanda, near the unending Nyungwe tropical forest. Gisakura Guesthouse provides simple lodging for guests who do not want to spend a lot of money but yet want to experience the beauty of the area and the wildlife that surrounds the lodge.

This hotel has 12 rooms that are made simply using local materials and with communal bathrooms. Rooms are constructed with brickwork, timber/wood, and tiled flooring to give them a more contemporary appearance. Your stay at the lodge is characterized by beautiful scenery and an occasional stroll on the fringes of the forest. Nature will astound you with its abundance of flora, which includes old mahoganies, extremely tall ebonies, and quite massive fern trees, as well as orchids and epiphytes clinging to tree limbs.
